Empowering YOUNG WOMEN TO LIVE LIFE CONFIDENTLY

Premier life-skills training initiative designed to impart basic social and live skills to young women

About My Sister's Keeper United, LLC

Founded by Community Organizer and Licensed Human Trafficking Prevention Counseler Toshi Countryman-Bey, My Sister’s Keeper United, LLC is one of Greater Hartford’s premier life-skills training initiatives. The organization develops and executes unique community-building activities that foster positive and productive  relationships among at-risk women and young women. My Sister’s Keeper United empowers women and adolescents to confidently engage with society through life-skills training and community-building workshops.  


We work with women, NGOs and NPOs that serve young women (shelters, after-school programs) and Middle School and High School Social Workers.

OUR WORKSHOPS

Nutrition Exchange Dinner with a VisioN

90 min workshop

During this workshop we will discuss the importance of healthy eating. We will plan herbs knows for their flavor as well as nutritional value. We will sample vegetables and a talk about fun recipes. A meal will be provided that includes the foods discussed

Dream Board Life in Motion

90 min workshop

This is a vison workshop for families- each family will start with a group/family activity. The winner will be announced. Participants will be asked to create a vision for their family which includes all family members. Pizza and cake will be provided as a celebration for completion.

Career Chats

90 min workshop

Women from various professions come in and give a brief discussion on their individual professions. There will be a Q&A session.

Getting to Know You Mocktail Hour

90min-2hr

This is an adult and youth mixer. This event is designed to encourage fruitful conversation and networking. We will talk about boundaries and confidence building. Youth volunteers will work as staff and serve mocktails and appetizers during the mixer. Feedback will be encouraged the last 15 minutes during a wrap up session.

Game Night

2 hours

Family game night. This is a full family night, some game will be parents vs teens

Others will be family verses family. The point is team building in the home as well as with community.

Imagine Me Paint Night

We will create an abstract or individual pieces that will describe how they would like to see themselves. We will discuss how the piece represents each individual youth and how it is designed to remind them of who they desire to be.

Mommy and Me Paint Night

This painting is a two part painting where parents and youth work together. To create one picture as a reminder they are connected. A paint instructor will present and discuss the therapeutic qualities associated with painting and more so painting and creating together.

Reclaiming our Baggage

This workshop is dedicated to rebuilding self esteem and dreams Realizing that we each determine our own worth.

OUR FOUNDER

Toshi K. Countryman-Bey

Toshi Countryman-Bey is a certified domestic violence counselor and ministry leader. She has run rental properties for 15 years, volunteered in shelters and social agencies for over 20 and works with various community agencies. She is often called upon to assist with relationship building activities by local agencies.  


She has worked with youth implementing programs in the Hartford Boys and Girls Club, The Village for Children and Families as well as Prudence Crandall. She founded My Sister's Keeper United in 2017 and launched Missing Link Initiative shortly after.
